Entering the Arcane Ludique universe means refusing standardisation. Every piece that leaves our Geneva workshop is designed to become an extension of your imagination. This guide is here to help you compose, thoughtfully and with pleasure, the set-up that is truly yours.
There is no universal collection, no ideal pack that works for everyone. A Game Master's table is not a player's table; a gothic universe does not call for the same tones as luminous fantasy; the dedicated solo collector gathers different objects from those shared around a communal table. It is this rich diversity that we have embraced in designing our ranges — so that every purchase is an informed decision, not a lucky guess.
I. Defining Your Role — The Architect or the Hero
For the Game Master
The Game Master is the guardian of the universe. Behind the screen, they simultaneously carry the voices of every character, the secrets of the plot, the maps of dungeons and the moods of gods. Their playing space must reflect this noble and demanding charge: an organised cockpit, an imposing facade, a discreet sanctuary.
The GM screen is the centrepiece. Choose a Grand Format model with four or five panels if your table is fixed — it will create that physical boundary between the real and the fictional that your players will sense instinctively. If you run games at conventions or at friends' homes, a more compact travel model offers equivalent protection with a smaller footprint.
The Dice Tower completes this setup with an invaluable theatrical dimension. It allows open rolls, visible to all, adding to critical moments that collective tension where everyone holds their breath. And it guarantees absolute impartiality — which, in a long campaign, is far from trivial.
Tip: if you are starting out as a Game Master, begin with the screen. It is the accessory that immediately transforms how your players perceive your role — and how you perceive it yourself.
For the Player
The player embodies. They are the action, the decision, the voice of the character. Their space is often constrained — a few centimetres around a character sheet — but that space deserves to be thoughtfully designed. A well-organised player plays better, faster, and with greater presence.
The individual player screen, compact and refined, defines your territory and protects your strategic resources. Dice trays and storage boards keep your dice and spell cards within reach without encroaching on others. For nomadic players who move from table to table, our transport cases combine rigid protection with discretion.
And then there is the dice box. More than any other object, it speaks for you at the table. Choose it with the same care you would give to a fine pen or a leather notebook — with the certainty that it will be on every table, at every session, for years to come.
« The right accessory does not change how you play. It changes how you feel when you play. And that nuance, your characters experience through you. »
II. The Aesthetic Signature — Choosing Your Finish
The choice of a finish is never trivial. It sets the tone of your accessory before a single die has been cast. We work exclusive finishes, applied by hand to reveal the character of each plank. Here is how we experience them, and how you might choose.
Dark Oak — Authority
A deep, almost brooding tone that evokes ancient libraries, wax-sealed pacts and secrets buried for generations. It suits gothic horror campaigns, dark universes and Game Masters who wish to project natural authority. At the table, Dark Oak does not draw attention — it commands it.
Light Oak — Authenticity
A natural finish that lets light and wood grain speak in their full spontaneous beauty. It brings clarity and Scandinavian authenticity to the table. Ideal for luminous high fantasy, stories of hope, and players who prefer elegance without artifice. Light Oak ages beautifully; in ten years, it will carry the patina of your finest evenings.
Golden Oak — Richness
Warm and radiant, recalling autumn honey and fossilised amber. The classic finish par excellence, evoking warm taverns where heroes reunite after battle, epic adventures and campaigns without end. Universal by nature, it suits almost any universe and is often the finest choice for a first purchase or a gift.
Mahogany — Distinction
With its deep reddish reflections that vary with the angle of light, Mahogany embodies Victorian luxury and the elegance of the great trading houses that shaped history. It is a wood that draws the eye and holds attention. For Steampunk campaigns, industrial fantasy settings, or players who refuse to go unnoticed.
Cherry Wood — Softness
A subtle, slightly satiny finish that develops patina wonderfully over time. Cherry Wood is the choice of those who love quietly beautiful things — those you discover gradually rather than those that impose themselves immediately. It suits players who seek a refined, timeless aesthetic, far from immediate effect.
Our advice: if you are hesitating between two finishes, ask yourself what atmosphere you want to create at your table rather than what simply appeals to the eye. The accessory should serve the atmosphere, not merely satisfy the gaze.
III. Bespoke — Your Mark in the Material
Personalisation is, at Arcane Ludique, the very essence of our craft. Your accessory should resemble no other. Not because difference is an end in itself, but because an object that bears your mark becomes fundamentally yours — no longer a beautiful generic accessory, but a material fragment of your personal story.
We can engrave images, heraldry and illustrations with surgical precision using our high-precision laser. Your guild's emblem, a map of a world you have created, a stylised portrait of your character, a symbol that belongs to you alone — all of this can be inscribed in the wood with a clarity that will surprise even those who work in the trade.
Text too has its own force. A motto in Elvish on the frieze of your screen, your Game Master name inlaid on your dice tray, a campaign quote on the lid of a box — these words anchor the object in your personal story in a way that images alone cannot equal.
And then there are the textiles. The leather or felt lining your trays and boards can be matched to the wood finish — forest green felt on Golden Oak — or contrasted boldly — blood-red leather on Dark Oak. These combinations make each piece a unique object unlike anything you will have seen elsewhere.
For any personalisation project, write to us. We will respond with ideas, a mock-up and a timeline. Every conversation with a client is, for us, the beginning of a collaboration.
IV. The Art of Giving — A Gift for Eternity
To give an Arcane Ludique accessory is to give far more than a gaming object. It is to offer recognition of a passion, a sign that you have understood what matters to this person and chosen to respond with care. Such a gift is not easily forgotten.
For a Game Master, the personalised screen is the Holy Grail. If you know the name of their campaign, their universe, their narrative style, share these when you order and we will create something unique. If the group of players pools together, you can even have a celebrated campaign quote engraved inside the screen — the effect is guaranteed.
For a player, the personalised dice box is a safe choice. It is an object they will open at every session, in front of everyone, and speak about. Choose a wood finish in harmony with the class or universe they favour — Mahogany for a charismatic Bard, Dark Oak for a ruthless Rogue, Light Oak for a Druid in harmony with the world.
If you are uncertain what to choose, or wish to let the recipient configure their own accessory, our prestige gift cards, presented in a physical wooden case, allow them to live the configuration experience in full detail — finish, engraving, textile. This is often the preferred gift of the truly passionate.
Every order is a conversation. We invite you to contact us directly to discuss your project, whether you are certain of your choice or still exploring the possibilities. It is in these exchanges that the finest pieces are born.
